Importance Of First Days Of Zil Hajj In Islam

The month of Zil Hajj is an extremely important month. This is the month in which Hajj is performed. Especially the first ten days of this month have very special value. There are several authentic sayings of Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) regarding the virtues of the first ten days of Zil Hajj.

The first ten days of this month are highly sacred and the good deeds are highly rewarded by Allah during these ten days. As mentioned in Bukhari 15: 86, Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) said, "No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (means the first ten days of Zil Hajj)”. After listening to this, a few companions of the Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) asked, “Not even Jihad?”. The prophet (S.A.W.) replied, “Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (in the path of Allah) and does not return with any of those things.”

Importance of 9th Day of Zil Hajj

9th day of this month is a highly sacred day. It is also referred to as the day of Arafah. As mentioned in Sahi Muslim 6: 2603, Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W) was once asked regarding the act of fasting on this day. The Messenger of Allah said, "It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year". Now you can imagine how important this day is, just by fasting for one day, your sins for the previous year and the coming year are forgiven.

Eid Ul Adha

Eid Ul Adha is the 2nd Eid celebrated by the Muslims each year. This Eid is celebrated on the 10th day of Zil Hajj. On this day, Muslims sacrifice an animal in the path of Allah and this reminds everybody of the biggest sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and his Son.

Maximizing Good Deeds

Every Muslim must try to do as many good deeds as possible during the first ten days of Zil Hajj. Although, goods deeds must be done in abundance throughout the year and same is the case with these ten days but the special thing about these ten days is that Allah will give you a much higher reward as compared to the good deeds done on other ordinary days of the year.

Muslims from all over the world should recite as many Takbiraat as possible from the 1st of Zil Hajj to 13th of Zil Hajj. After seeing the moon of Zil Hajj, Muslims should refrain from cutting their hairs or nails until they offered the sacrifice. Try to spend most of your time in doing good deeds, recite Quran, remember Allah as much as you can, give away as much charity in the path of Allah as possible, offer prayers, be kind to others, and help others as much as you can. These ten days are very special, so try to do as many good deeds as possible in order to get the enhanced reward and increased blessing.
